Despite the daily barrage of new collaborative technologies, the e-mail Inbox continues to be the center of the knowledge worker’s activity. UK start-up Kinomi leverages the messages in a user’s e-mail account as the content foundation of Kinomi E-Mail Collaboration team space. (Kinomi E-Mail Collaboration is a module within the Kinomi Information Management Suite, which also includes Kinomi Archiving.)
A plug-in to the desktop e-mail client allows the user to send a copy of an inbound or outbound message to the Kinomi web store. The desktop client must support MIME and HTML.
In simplest terms, the Kinomi web store collects e-mail messages. The Kinomi “intelligent” engine (utilizing, in part, natural language processing) extracts specified information from the e-mail header, body and attachments in building its online “knowledgebase.” As new e-mail messages are added, the Kinomi engine “learns,” for example by using pattern matching to develop threads between messages. Using a permissions-based, opt-in model, team members can access a common workspace, which has been populated and made “smart” with their and their colleagues’ messages.
Kinomi E-Mail Collaboration captures knowledge normally lost in e-mail messages. More importantly, it can provide a platform for higher-level information sharing.
